uPVC: practical choices for replacement windows
uPVC is a common option for replacement windows, with different opening styles, colours and glazing-bar arrangements. Compare the actual profile, reinforcement, hardware and glass proposed rather than judging every uPVC system as the same product.
Aluminium: consider the sightlines and openings
Aluminium can suit contemporary rooms and wider glazed openings. Frame proportions and the system available for your dimensions matter. Ask for the complete window thermal performance and opening configuration; material alone does not tell you how the finished window will perform.
Timber: consider character and ongoing care
Timber can suit homes where traditional proportions and detailing matter. Discuss the timber, factory finish, glazing bars and maintenance instructions for the selected product. Tell us about any property restrictions before agreeing an order.
Compare the complete window
Ask each supplier to identify the manufacturer and system, frame colour, dimensions, opening direction, glass specification, ventilation and hardware. If thermal performance matters to you, compare the whole-window Uw value for the proposed specification, rather than a glass-only figure.
Include installation in the comparison
Confirm who takes final measurements, removes existing frames, disposes of waste and makes good around the openings. Access, upper-floor work and interior finishes can change the installation scope. For supply-only orders, measurement and specification responsibilities need to be agreed clearly.
Send photos before deciding
You do not need to choose a material before enquiring. Send your postcode, photographs, the approximate number of windows and what you want to improve. We welcome enquiries in Gloucester, Cheltenham, Stroud, Stonehouse, Tewkesbury and Churchdown.
